Vacation and New Review

Still enjoying the vacation. Temps were in the 90’s here yesterday. We originally planned to take the train into NYC, walk around, go to the Hard Rock CafĂ©, etc. We stepped outside and knew it was a crazy idea. Instead I took the DH to breakfast. We spent the day eating, shopping and then three hours playing volleyball in the pool. It was a fun-filled day. I can’t remember laughing that much in a very long time.
Later I took him, the two girls and the grandbaby out to dinner. Our son had a softball game with all this guy friends so he didn’t join us. Overall a great day.
Tonight we’re off to see the Red Sox. His parents bought him great seats for his birthday. Until then I have to get the house cleaned and in order for our trip tomorrow. Six hours in the car with three 13 yr olds. We must be insane!!!! LOL
On the writing front Pretend With Me, the first book in my Freedom Fantasies series, received a 4 cherry review from Whipped Cream. You can read it here

I haven’t written since Friday. My intentions were to take the entire week off from any writing. That ended today. *shakes head*
Yup, I started a new story. It’ll be a quick holiday story. I swore I wouldn’t write any holiday themed stories too. Yet this Naughty Nick wouldn’t stop talking in my ear to write his story. So this morning I began writing again. No rest for the wicked.
I have so many other ideas for stories, but Nick spoke the loudest. Demanding sucker.
Okay, off to play!

Happy Wednesday.

Happy Birthday to my husband, who turns 40 today!

Welcome to my world honey! :)

The End

I typed those two words on two manuscripts this week. Wednesday I sent one editor my cougar challenge story and today I finished Stranded. I began editing Stranded yesterday, knowing the end was near. My hopes are to have it to the new editor by Monday or Tuesday.
I’ve been suffering from migraines all week long and they’ve taken their toll on me. It’s probably the stress from trying to get two books done and finish all the preparations for the surprise party. Tomorrow is the big day…all my hard work will be over. It can’t come soon enough. I still have running to do today and in the morning. I hope the DH realizes how much I love him. LOL
Tomorrow is also my mom’s birthday. Even though we celebrated it a few weeks ago, I’ll do something small for her when she arrives.
Sunday I will crash – hard! The DH is talking about leaving Sunday night for Block Island. We’ll see.
As I’ve been saying I’ll be on vacation next week – woo hoo. Probably won’t be blogging too much. The second half of the week I’ll have limited email access too. I’ll likely leave you all with snippets of my backlist.
Until then…have a great weekend!

Cindy Jacks - Goddess Fish Blog Tour

Today please give a warm welcome to Cindy Jacks. She dropped in for an interview on her All the Good Men Virtual Blog Tour.

Thank you, Amber for hosting me today! I'm so glad to be here.

How did you start your writing career?

I've always enjoyed writing, but never thought I could do anything with my work professionally. I didn't even know how to go about submitting something to a publisher. So for years, I had all these short stories just lying around my hard drive. Then, my ex-husband, of all people, encouraged me to send in a short story to an e-publisher and the rest is history.

Has someone helped or mentored you in your writing career?

I consider myself blessed. I have so many colleagues who are also friends. They've been there to help me every step along the way. Kensana Darnell, Aubrey Leatherwood, Jambrea Jo Jones, Ericka Scott, Natalie Dae, Kayden McLeod and Kristin Manter to name a few. Okay that's more than a few, lol. Oh and I can't forget the ladies at Heat Wave Readers. They've been so supportive, too. I've learned so much from my fellow writers. I really owe them a huge debt of gratitude.

What do you think makes a good story?

It's so hard to judge my own writing sometimes, but I know I'm on the right track if the characters seem real to me and there's chemistry among them. My work is very much character-driven and the plot develops around them. I strive to create characters that readers will identify with and remember for years to come. If I can do that then I think it's safe to say I've written a good story.

Who are your books published with?

Readers can find my first novel, All the Good Men, at Moongypsy Press. As Cindy Jacks, I also have several short stories with Freya's Bower. Writing as CJ Elliott I have books with Wild Child Press, Cobblestone Press and a novel titled Clean coming soon to Moongypsy Press.
I'm proud to say I just signed my first contract with Ellora's Cave. Woo hoo! Leap will come out later this year.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a ballerina-astrophysicist-veterinarian-artist-writer, LOL. I was interested in everything—still am. I'm glad I accomplished a couple of the things on that list!

What do you do to unwind and relax?

I play an obscene amount of Mario Kart and Super Mario Bros. When I'm tired or unfocused, I find video games perk me up so when I get the 4:00-in-the-afternoon doldrums, I jump on the Wii and give myself a boost.
I also do yoga, bellydance, sketch, and bake. I really love to bake!

What would we find under your bed?

Paintings! OMG, I have so much artwork. I went to the University of Hawaii and majored in art. My ex- is a painter. My walls are full with my work, his work, and that of friends. I swap out my collection on a rotating basis and my 'gallery storage' is under my bed, lol. I'm sure there are quite a few dust bunnies under there, too.

Tell us about your favorite fan letter you have received.

A fan gave me what I consider the highest compliment. She said that my books had touched her emotionally and that she missed the characters now that she'd finished the series. She also said the characters would stick in her memory for a long time to come. When I read that, my jaw dropped and I got tears in my eyes. It made me feel so good that my words meant that much to another person. It's really the essence of why I write—to connect with my readers, to give them a little bit of myself.

Author bio:
Prior to becoming a writer of romantic and erotic fiction, Cindy was a 'jacks' of all trades. Besides obtaining a BFA in sculpture, interning as a pastry-chef, and learning the art of furniture restoration, she worked for ten years in the corporate arena, but now happily spends her days as a full time author. Her first published work--"The Point of Distraction Series"--was inspired by a collection of short stories she wrote to entertain her best friend. Since then she's explored her inner bad girl and penchant for love stories by producing books full of humor and packed with real emotion. When not chained to her laptop, she enjoys belly dancing, international cooking, and making jewelry. She and her family call the Washington, DC area home.

Book Title: All the Good Men
Tagline: Good things come in forty-something firefighter packages...

Blurb:
Dahlia is sure the hackneyed platitude is true: After a certain age, all the good men are married or gay. She feels her thirty-eight years put her well past that 'certain age.' Her best friend and her sisters dare her to put her fate where her mouth is. The terms of the challenge? During the month of October, she has to end her five-year-long man fast and go on dates with men of their choosing. Oh, and she also has to go out with anyone else who asks.

As the date disasters pile up, the vindication almost makes the torturous evenings bearable for Dahlia. But a handsome new neighbor, Jackson Carmichael, moves in, changing the rules of the game. Retired after twenty-six years as a pro firefighter in Boston, he volunteers with the local fire department, coaches a youth hockey team, and appears for all the world to be the perfect man. He just might throw a wrench into Dahlia's plan to die lonely and single...that is if she doesn't scare him away first.

Excerpt:

Her fingers slid over the ripples of his abdomen. Caressing her cheek, he moved in and brushed his lips against hers. Dahlia relaxed against him.
One button at a time, she worked until the shirt fell open. Smooth, cotton fabric glided over his shoulders and fluttered to the floor. She grimaced at his undershirt; just another layer of clothes separating her from his fragrant skin. Pulling it over his chest, she was forced to break away from his embrace to liberate him from the garment. He seized the opportunity to strip her of her t-shirt as well.
Large hands skimmed along her collarbone and followed her bra strap to the swell of her breasts. He folded his arms around her again. Despite the heat that passed between them, his touch gave her goosebumps. His tongue traced the curve of her neck, making her shiver.
Slow, deliberate kisses worked up her throat, brushed past her ear, then captured her lips. A deft motion behind her unsnapped her bra. Shimmying free of it, her bare breasts grazed against his torso. More tremors of excitement darted through her.
Jackson scooped her up and carried her to the bed. Her ruffled comforter felt cool against her back. He leaned in and covered her mouth with his. The dim light filtering through the curtains, the whir of the ceiling fan, even the intrusive red light from her alarm clock on the bedside table—everything else faded away until she was aware only of his warmth, his scent, and the feel of his lips against hers. She lost herself in the rhythm of his heartbeat, her own pulse picking up speed.
A hand slid underneath her skirt and up the length of her thigh. She let out a long sigh as he settled his hand between her legs. Slow, gentle strokes over her silken panties created a throbbing ache she could hardly bear. It'd been so long since anyone had touched her much less so handsome and sensual a man.
Jackson slid down her abdomen and left a trail of kisses in his wake. Her stomach quivered with each light brush of his lips across her skin. Reaching the junction of her hips and legs, his tongue skipped along the crease of her inner thigh...

Chapter One

Mac Moreno leaned back against the corral fence and looked out over land that now belonged, in part, to him. A year ago, he would never have imagined such a thing but with Joe Morgan’s death, the White Eagle Ranch had been split into thirds, leaving his half sister Leah, half brother Dash and himself with a legacy that was pretty overwhelming to a guy who’d scratched out a living alone for most of his life.
Heavy noonday sunshine beat down on him. Mac swept the battered straw cowboy hat from his head and mopped his sweaty brow with a bandana he kept tucked in his back pocket.
Damn hot today.
A savage shriek ripped through the air. Mac squinted at the violently blue Texas sky and watched a lone eagle glide through that vivid palette to land on the roof of the barn where it pierced him with an unblinking gaze. Eagle and man shared a moment of utter communion. No doubt the bird of prey wondered what the hell a nobody like himself was doing out here laying claim to this land, this ranch.
Mac had asked himself the same question a million times over the past few months. Sending his gaze over the immediate area, taking in the stately ranch house in the distance, the corrals, the barn, he wondered about the fickleness of fate. His mother Elena had been the housekeeper for Joe Morgan thirty-odd years ago and on one hot Texas night, she’d slept with the boss and wound up pregnant. That event had ended her employment at White Eagle Ranch and she’d moved on to clean the houses of wealthy folks in the town of Morgan’s Creek, scratching out a living as a single mother until the day she’d died.
Mac’s jaw tightened.
As he shifted his gaze to the side of the barn, memories assaulted him, bitter and ultimately humiliating. He’d been sixteen, a gangly kid who knew full well the rich, powerful Joe Morgan was the father who’d never claimed him, never wanted him.
“What the hell are you doing here, boy?”
Mac swallowed hard. His hands were shaking but he didn’t want his father to see so he shoved them in the pockets of his jeans and tried like hell to look cool. “Looking for work, sir.”
Joe scowled at him. He was a big man with a shock of white hair and as intimidating as hell. This was the man who didn’t want him, didn’t speak to him on the streets of Morgan’s Creek, the town that bore his name. The big man looked down and then up, taking him in, sizing him up, and Mac knew Joe Morgan didn’t like what he saw. Nope. He didn’t measure up but had he thought he would? He’d been fooling himself.
“Aren’t you Elena Moreno’s kid?”
“Yessir.”
Silence fell. Mac sucked in a breath and held it. What the hell had he been thinking? Had he imagined his dad would call him son and hug him like he meant it?
Suddenly Mac felt stupid and dumb and more on the outside than ever before.
Why would the all-powerful Joe Morgan ever in a million years acknowledge a poor Mexican kid from the wrong side of the tracks? To most of the town, Mac was nothing but trash. He had no hope of college and could lay claim to no kind of future. Hell, his mom had saved for years just to buy him a class ring so he could remember his high school days. Dumb thing but it made Elena proud to do it. She’d saved every dime so he could have a couple of new pairs of jeans at the start of every school year. She’d worked her fingers to the bone, scrubbing toilets and polishing floors, to give him the bare necessities of life. Joe Morgan had never contributed. Not once.
In the distance, a horse galloped across a pasture. Pretty Leah, his half sister, the legitimate child of Joe Morgan, was out riding her beautiful mare, her ponytail whipping out behind her like a shiny flag. Resentment welled up deep inside him. His heart tightened and frustration dug steely spurs into his belly. She had everything. He had nothing. The fact that she didn’t know he was her brother wasn’t the issue. Mac was so jealous he wanted to just die.
He was the unacknowledged bastard kid of a rich dude who apparently hated his guts.
Mac focused on the older man and wanted to kick his own ass. His being here was stupid, ridiculous.
Joe shifted his stance and gave him a fierce look. “Think you’ve got what it takes to be a cowboy, kid?”
The spit dried in Mac’s mouth. “Yessir.”
“Well, I don’t think so,” he drawled. “Got plenty of hands and they don’t need to be babysitting you. Now you get on out of here, kid. You don’t belong here.”
Mac watched him walk away without a backward glance, standing there, his eyes burning like hellfire from tears. Then he turned and ran as fast as he could to the old beat-up truck he’d borrowed from a friend. Slamming the door of the truck, he rubbed his stinging eyes before driving away.

Monday Again

We did a lot of partying over the weekend. On Saturday we had to go to a three year olds party. Plus run around for the cookout at our house on Sunday. The DH’s father and family came over to celebrate Father’s Day. We ate lots of food and my BIL brought some delicious pastries. Overall it was a great weekend.
Progress on Stranded is coming along nicely too. I’m currently at 22k. I projected this to be around 25k. It will likely run over, but hey, that’s cool. I’m sure the editor won’t mind. I’m still hoping to wrap it up by Friday.
Our vacation plans have changed about 50 times. Originally we were going to go away for a few days alone. My youngest has decided she doesn’t want to spend much time in NY with her father. (Can’t say I blame her) We decided to take her and a friend and drive to PA. We were there two years ago when she qualified for Nationals with her softball team. We went to Hershey Park, but a big storm prevented us from staying. We swore we’d go back, so that’s what we’re doing. Next Thursday we’ll hop in the car and make the 6 hour drive. We’ll return on Sunday and relax on Monday as we both have it off from work.
Today I plan to spend some time on the pool deck and enjoy this sun!

Friday, June 18, 2010

YAY! It's Friday.

One week until vacation and eight days until the second surprise party is over. Let me tell you, a few times I wanted to just tell the DH about the party. The two families are stressing me out. Some don’t respond, some are starting fights with others and the biggest issue was a gift. Now mind you I’m excited my hubby’s getting a gift he wants for his birthday, but the timing is an issue.
We planned on getting away to Block Island for three or four days during our vacation. We weren’t sure we would go to Block Island, but it was one of a few choices. We were going to leave on the 29th, his actual birthday and come back Friday. Well his parents (who by the way knew we were going away), bought Red Sox tickets. For the 30th! Ummm, hello. Maybe you could have reached out to me and asked what dates would be good. The best part was having to ask him to change our plans and not tell him why.
Yeah, that didn’t work. I go to him and said, “Honey, we have to change our plans slightly. Don’t make any plans for the 30th and I can’t tell you why.”
He turns and says, “Oh so who bought the Red Sox tickets?”
I left the room. I suck at lying. LOL
In other news I was offered a contract for book three in the Freedom Fantasies series. Play With Me.
Doing the Happy Dance over here.
I’m about 9k away from finishing Stranded. I want this puppy done by the 25th. I want to go on vacation and not think about writing.
In July I’ll start Tommy’s story. He was in Pretend With Me and deserves to have a HEA. I’m planning this to be a quickie, but we’ll see.
Come on vacation!!!!!!!
Off to babysit the darling granddaughter. Happy Friday Everyone!

Suzanne Brandyn - Goddess Fish Virtual Blog Tour

Tell us about your current release.

‘Heat in the Outback,’ published by Eternal Press, is a contemporary romance, set on the edge of Outback Australia.

Sarah Munro returns home for her father’s funeral. She wants to settle his affairs and return to Sydney as quickly as possible. With a lifetime of regret behind her, she doesn’t want anyone to find out what she’d done in the past, it could open old wounds. It is a story of one woman’s journey who finally realizes what she’d been searching for in her life was right before her eyes. She wants to turn back the clock and grab hold of what she had lost. But will it be too late?

Who is your favorite author?

There are many great authors, I don’t have a favourite. Nora Roberts, Stephanie Myer, Rebecca James are just a few.

Does your significant other read your stuff?

Lol. I have trouble getting him to read a blurb. But no, he doesn’t. I write for women, not for men.

Plotter or Pantser? Why?

I’m a plotter basically. I find the major plot, and then draw up characters sheets. I then write a brief summary of what is to happen in each chapter, and add sub plots. It’s direction, and I love having direction otherwise I’d wander all over the place and my characters would never reach their happy ever after. If I don’t do this, I imagine the end would never be in sight.
How do you develop your plots and your characters? Do you use any set formula?
I don’t have a formula really. When I come up with something I feel could be a good main plot it develops from there. It’s the same with my characters. I see them in pictures, and then I draw up their profile.

What book are you reading now?

I’ve just finished reading Beautiful Malice, by Rebecca James, Dear John, by Nicholas Sparks, and I’m on the last pages of, The Barkcutters, by Nicole Alexander. I’m holding off reading the next Twilight novel, Eclipse, as I want to see the movie first.

What do you do to unwind and relax?

Swim, take a walk, read, watch a good movie, visit friends, and shop. Perhaps I should have put shop first. Lol.

Tell us about your favorite restaurant.

I don’t have just one favourite. I love visiting a place called, Blue Water Bar and Restaurant. It serves the most delectable food, and sometimes has live music. Also I go to a place called the Sandbar with water views. The ambience is relaxing, the food great, and the staff wonderful.

Tell us about your favorite fan letter you have received.

It made my day. She said she wanted to get on a small aircraft and force it to make an emergency landing just so she could be stranded on the island with the hero, Michael. She fell in love with him. It was a lovely letter.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Please come and say hi to me over at my blog, http://suzanne-brandyn.blogspot.com/ or let me know if you enjoy reading ‘Heat in the Outback’ http://www.suzannebrandyn.com/ I’d love to hear from you.

Thank you Amber.

Excerpt:

“Red alert, red alert! Hot babe soon to materialize on Main Street.”
Almost the entire town’s population of hot-blooded males received the text message on their mobile phones. They dashed for closer observation of the strange silver convertible crawling through town.
Jack was at the bowser. Pete strummed a spanner in his hand, as his mechanic Dylan peered over his shoulder. Dan from the bakery took an admiring glimpse through his window and Sam leant on the edge of the architrave of the local real estate agent. Many more enthusiasts partook of the pleasurable sight.
Summer sun reflected off honey blonde hair, swaying in the breeze of the open top convertible.
“Sure is a hot one. Where in the hell did she come from?” Pete said, his mouth easing into a grin.
“The text message was from Bill,” Dylan stated. “Guess he’s hallin’ hay to Tamworth. Sure has city written all over her.”
The convertible disappeared, leaving mouths gaping, and eyes widening with disbelief.
“What’s everyone so hell-bent about? Looks like you’re all in overload.”
“That’s right Ethan, you wouldn’t have got one.”
“Got one what?” Ethan came to a standstill and leant on the bowser.
“A text from Bill alerting us of the major babe attack.”
“Where, what?”
“Too late; she’s already gone. You know you should invest in a mobile phone. It’ll keep you up to date.”
“Waste of time, talkin’ and textin’. I like the good old-fashioned telephone, one anchored to a wall…was the woman alone?”
“Yeah, she looked like that Sarah Munro girl. You know the one that got engaged to that actor guy, the big time model on the television. She was all polished up like one of those gals on our calendars. You wouldn’t understand, Ethan.” He let out a roar. “She gave us a smile that had our hearts stoppin’, I can tell you that.”
Ethan understood all right, more than he was willing to admit.

Chapter One

Rena had one goal in mind—to get laid. Taking a long drag off the straw nestled in her fruity drink, she scanned the smoke-filled bar for a potential mark. Tonight she didn’t care about getting to know someone. No, tonight she only cared about filling the void in her aching pussy.
“Damn,” she cursed under her breath. Tables were full with happy couples, either enjoying drinks or dinner. Soft jazz played in the background. Normally, Rena enjoyed the lazy tempo, but not tonight. She was too busy looking for someone to fill her need. Her desire. Rena’s pussy ached to be fucked. Glancing around the haze she shook her head. Not one guy in the place looked eligible. She considered going to another bar, but decided against it. Not many bars offered rooms above them for the clients to rent by the hour. No, this was the place where she intended to find the man to make her pussy sing. Besides, the patrons were upper class and the bar had a reputation for only allowing in respectable people. Safe. That was the reason she was here and wouldn’t go any place else.
Staring into the mirror behind the bar she gave the room another scan. Still nothing. She couldn’t believe there wasn’t one man desirable enough to give her the relief she craved.
She emptied the contents of her drink. Maybe it was best if she called it a night. Obviously she wasn’t getting laid tonight.
As she stepped off the barstool Rena’s face came into contact with one broad chest. She glanced up to stare into the most exquisite blue eyes she’d ever seen.
“Leaving so soon?” his husky voice asked.
“Just going to powder my nose,” she lied.
“I didn’t think women did that any longer.”
“I’m not just any woman.” Rena winked. “I’m every man’s wish come true.” Leaving him standing there, mouth agape, she headed towards the bathroom.
He ordered her a new drink when she shimmied onto the stool.
“Thanks for the drink.” She didn’t bother to look at him, but she caught him watching her in the mirror.
“My pleasure.”
Rena couldn’t help herself, she smiled.
He was gorgeous, dressed in tight fitting denims and a painted-on black tee , muscles bulging from under the short sleeves.
“Come here often?” Lame. She hated pick-up lines, so why was she using one on him?
He laughed a hearty laugh.
“Actually the first time.”
Hmm. A first timer.
“So what brings you here tonight?”
“I’m looking for a little action.”
“What kind of action?” Maybe the same kind she was looking for? A “wham bam thank you ma’am” kinda night?
“Nothing you’d be interested in, I’m sure.”
“And what makes you so sure I’m not interested in your kind of action?” Insult dripped from her voice.
“Just a gut feeling.”
“Are you saying I’m too prim and proper for you?”
He shrugged indifferently.
“Try me, I’ll bet I surprise you.”
He shook his head no.
Are you fucking serious? He was turning her down? No fucking way. This was not the way she had planned this night. She was determined to get laid and Mister Muscles fit the bill.
“Let me guess, you’re looking to get laid—no strings attached?”
He didn’t flinch when she blurted out the statement.
Instead he stood, reached deep into his pocket and pulled out a wad of cash.
“You think you can handle my action?”
He slapped a hundred dollar bill on the bar.
“I’m offering you one hundred dollars to be my slut for the night.”
She almost choked on her drink.
“See I knew you wouldn’t be able to handle it.” He sat back down.
She laughed.
“What’s so funny?”
“That you think one hundred dollars is enough. Make it five and I’ll be Mary Fucking Poppins if you want.”

Fried Brain

Hey everyone!

Still playing catch up from being away over the weekend. My mom's surprise party was a blast and she was VERY surprised. I managed to write THE END on my Cougar Challenge book - YAY. I have to do self-edits and then off to my editor.

I hit the 10k mark on the other book I'm working on Stranded. Only 15k to go! LOL

Spent yesterday taking care of the granddaughter. First my daughter was working and then she was having blackouts. So she spent a few hours at the ER. She's good and so is the baby. She's having blood pressure issues, but they say it should pass, but they'll keep a close eye on her.

Today I'm exhausted! :)

Happy Tuesday.

Still Recovering

Taking it easy today folks. Being put under took a toll on me. :) Got a clean bill of health, but still feel loopy. Just spent loads of $$$ buying books for my new purty pink Sony ereader. Shhh, don't tell the DH! hahahahahaha

Headed to NY for the weekend. Have to work the stupid DJ, holed up in a hotel room. Sunday will be fun though. Surprising MOM with a birthday party. Being an only child I've had to plan this all from a distance. Hope she has fun.

Until I blog again!

P.S. Thanks everyone who made my friend Heather Peters feel welcomed. I truly appreciate it! Smooches

Heather Peters Interview

Please give a warm welcome to fellow chaptermate and Noble Romance author Heather Peters.
She was gracious enough to allow me to interview her.

Amber: How did you start your writing career?

Heather: I started writing in the mid-80's, when I fell in love with all the gorgeous lead singers of those great groups that inspired me to write my first book. It's a romance about an 80's singer trying to make a comeback, and his much younger gorgeous music producer. And I wrote it long before 'Music and Lyrics' ! It's never been published (I've received several rejections through the years), but some day, I may read it over again and try to submit it once more.

Amber: Tell us about your favorite character from your books.

Heather: My favorite character is Lyon Sauvage, my hero from Surrender, my upcoming e-book novella from Noble Publishing, slated for release on July 12th. Surrender is a contemporary take on the "Beauty and the Beast" fairy tale, my favorite. Lyon is scarred inside and out, and I fell in love with his feelings for Isabella, my 'beauty'. He is French, tall and sexy with long dark hair and he is my throwback to the Renaissance men of years gone by, classically educated and single minded when it comes to Belle. Nothing stands in his way to possess her, demand her surrender, and her love.

Amber: Tell us about your current release.

Heather: Toy With Me, written with my writing partner, Eden Elgabri, is available now from Freya's Bower. It’s an e-book novella, about a woman who takes a detour on her way to becoming a journalist, to selling sex toys on a local shopping channel. The owner of the television station is immediately attracted to her, and the sparks fly.

Amber: Tell us about your next release.

Heather: My first solo release with be Surrender, on July 12th, by Noble Publishing, a 23K word erotic romantic novella about Lyon and Belle, my contemporary version of Beauty and the Beast. When Isabella Beaumont finds her business is about to go under, she turns to the only person that can help her, Lyon Sauvage, a man who was her friend years before, but who she left because she couldn’t give him what he wanted, her surrender. Lyon agrees to help her, but for a price: her submission to him for 3 days….and nights.

Amber: Who is your favorite author?

Heather: Since I write erotic romance, I love reading erotic romance by my friends, naturally, like Eden Elgabri and Amber Skyze (ooohhh thanks *blushes*). I also enjoy Maya Banks, Sasha White, Megan Hart and Bella Andre. Their heroines are awesome, strong women who are not afraid of their sexuality.

Amber: I enjoy being categorized with Maya Banks and Megan Hart! :)

Amber: When was your first sale?

Heather: My first sale was June 3rd, 2009 and it was for Toy With Me, written with my writing partner, Eden Elgabri.

Amber: When in the day/night do you write? How long per day?

Heather: I have to say I'm a lazy writer, that is, I really don’t have a set writing schedule. I write when I have the time, and when I'm in the mood.

Amber: Tell us about your family.

Heather: I have a wonderful husband, who supports me and encourages me constantly. I am blessed with a grown son and daughter, and the lights of my life are my grandson and granddaughter, who remind me every day how lucky I am to have them in my life.

Amber: Do you use a pen name? If so, how did you come up with it?

It's simple really. My pen name is Heather Peters, my son and daughter's name. I recommend that if you're going with a pen name, make it something special, because you're going to live with that name, hopefully, for a long time!

Amber: I didn't know that's how you came about your pen name. Very interesting!

Amber: Do you listen to music while writing? If so what?

Heather: While I was writing Surrender, I actually listened to a lot of classical music, mostly Barber, Mozart and Vivaldi. I like to listen to Josh Groban too, because his lyrics and voice are so romantically sexual and potent, they actually inspire me to write many of my love scenes.

Amber: What books have most influenced your life?

Heather: The first romance I ever read was The Flame and the Flower, by Kathleen Woodiwiss. She influenced me to write compelling characters, and deep, meaningful love stories, intelligent plots and always, a HEA. I also am a big fan of Nora Roberts, Suzanne Brockmann, Brenda Novak, Sandra Marton, and too many more to mention.

Amber: What book are you reading now?

Heather: I'm reading "Trouble" by Sasha White, a steamy, erotic romance. Gets me in the mood for writing.

Amber: What are your favorite TV shows?

Heather: My absolute fave is True Blood. I also watch The Tudors and Dexter, and Nurse Jackie. House is another favorite. I think Hugh Laurie is the most amazing anti-hero I've ever observed. I'm not much for reality shows. My fave show of all time though, is "Beauty and the Beast," in my opinion, the most romantic series on tv or film, that I've ever had the pleasure to witness.

Amber: I'm a huge fan of The Tudors. A lot of my fellow authors are True Blood fanatics.

Amber: What do you do to unwind and relax?

Heather: Read, of course. I love the feel of a good book in my hands. I don’t own a kindle or any of those things. I'm a purist when it comes to books, and like to turn pages on my own, thank you very much!

Amber: What would we find under your bed?

Heather: A whole lot of dust bunnies! Seriously though, I must harbor at least 20-40 yellow legal pads of 4 or 5 unfinished wips – all in long hand! I keep promising myself I'll get to them – someday.

Amber: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Heather: Yes, and I will just coin some corny clichĂ©s and say that, if you love to write, I don’t care how old or young you are, don’t give up your dream. Write what you love, what moves you, what you know. If you've received passes on your work, send it back out again! Not everyone's work is a good fit for every publisher. Enter contests, write every day, even if it’s a grocery list. And the largest piece of advice I can give is to find a critique partner. I can't tell you how helpful it's been for me to have a person I trust to critique and read my work. I've been writing and submitting my work since 1986, and my first work was published last June, at the age of 56. I will write until I fall off my office chair!

Heather thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions. I've known you for some time now and even I learned new things.

Sliding Home

Came out on Friday and my publisher is putting it up on all the third party vendor sites. That's cool, except I ran into a little issue this morning.

I was over at Cyberread and noticed Sliding Home was available there. I clicked on it and imagine my surprise when I discovered it was rated 94 times. Pretty damn good for a book that's only been out 5 days. WOW, I'm doing something right. LOL

I immediately realized it had to be a mistake. None of my books have been reviewed that many times...not even combined. So I start looking at the reviews.

Yikes - they're for someone named Kate Angell. Her book Sliding Home is part of a series and contains a Hero and Heroine.

Ummm, mine is M/M and not currently part of a series. Not sure how to handle this one or if it's a good or bad thing. Wouldn't want to piss people off who were expecting an installment in a M/F series.

In other news:

I bought myself the Sony Pocket eReader. I've been filling it up with my friends books for vacation. 16 more days!

Exposing Myself to the Universe - Non Writing (Very Personal)

So today I’m talking off topic of writing. I might be getting too personal, but after this weekend I have to take this chance and put myself out there to the universe. Before you read any further I want to apologize to anyone I might offend with this personal blog.
I went to my last writer’s meeting of this season on Saturday and a friend of mine who I hadn’t seen in months made a huge non-writing announcement.
She adopted a baby. I cried tears of joy for her. She is my age and has never had children of her own. She has two lovely stepchildren but for any mother – raising a baby from birth is precious. My friend just couldn’t seem to get pregnant and fertility wasn’t an option. She felt it opens too many cans of worms.
In some ways I have to agree. Though the hubby and did go that route sometimes I wonder if it’s right. Anyway, during a break I talked to her and she said when her husband and her decided to adopt they hadn’t realized how hard it would be. They had a certain criteria and they weren’t coming close to finding it.So they sat down again and decided kids weren’t in the cards for them. Now, most days the DH and I feel this way too.
We struggle with our loss and still question whether or not we’ll be parents together. DH has no children of his own. LOnce my friend and her husband gave up a baby fell into their laps – literally. No joking. A friend of a friend of a friends kid found out she was pregnant (and very far along) and decided they weren’t ready to be parents. They asked my friend to adopt. They joyfully said yes.
There’s always the possibility that the kids could change their minds between now and November when the adoption becomes final, but that’s the risk every adoptive parent takes. Either way this child lived in a healthy home for six months. That’s not to say the parents aren’t healthy.
Why am I telling you all this? Because I’m putting myself out there. I’m opening myself to this universe like my friend told me to do. I’m telling everyone who will listen just in case they know a friend of a friend who has a baby they can’t care for and need to put up for adoption.
With two embryos left we thought about going the surrogate route. The people in our lives who want to help are either too young or too old! LOL
So here I am universe!

Burning Bridges

I had another blog subject planned but my friend Molly posted one on author’s behaving badly and I wanted to add my own personal take. It isn’t so much writer related, but it does show you shouldn’t burn bridges because you never know when you’ll need the person you’re speaking badly about.
About seven years ago I found myself in an interoffice relationship. We lived 200 miles away from each other, but we were growing close. We kept the relationship under wraps…well I did tell one friend at work.
My boss at the time suspected something, but never said anything to me. I transferred closer to my now hubby. I still worked for the same company but on a different account. Said boss began telling everyone about her suspicions. I wanted to tell her off and tell her to mind her own f*cking business, but I didn’t. instead I took the high road and remained quiet. I eventually left the company and found a better job.
One day this former boss called and said she knew about a great job she thought I’d be perfect for. Four years later I’m still employed with the company she helped me get in to…she is not.
Bottom line is if I burned the bridge I wouldn’t have this wonderful opportunity. I get to do what I love best – writing and work out of the comfort of my home. no commute, no rush hour traffic and no office politics.
As I watch certain authors take down fellow authors it makes me sad. We’re all struggling in a lonely business. Friends are your outlet. Why would you want to belittle them?
Okay enough of that! In other news I’m over at Coffee Time Romance today for their June Jubilee. Stop by if you get a chance! My forum is Amber Skyze, bringing out the naughty side in you. Just like my blog! LOL

Happy Monday.

Veiled Secrets Reviews Loved IGNITED

What a nice way to start the day. Veiled Secrets Reviews sent me their review of Ignited and it was fabulous. I must admit this is one of my all-time favorites. Here's part of what they had to say.

5 Silver Dragons -
It was encouraging to me to think of how it would feel to experience your fantasies just once. What a trip it would be to have all your desires come to life as it did for Nikaya. Ignited starts with a bang and keeps exploding the entire story.

Happy Release Day to Me!

Today Sliding Home is available from Aspen Mountain Press. This is a contemporary M/M about my favorite sport - baseball.

Blurb:
Alex loves baseball, so when the majors come calling he is thrilled. The only thing that would make his happiness complete is a partner to share it with. Although his best friend, Rick, knows Alex is gay, he doesn't know that Alex has been in love with him for years. And with his departure for the major leagues imminent, he's not sure now is the best time to tell him.But after an evening of celebration turns into a night of pleasure, Alex is confused. Does Rick want a relationship with him? Or, will he walk out of Rick's life forever, wondering what might have been?Alex's career has hit a home run but his love for Rick is the ultimate victory. If he can figure out a way to slide into home plate, he'll do more than score.
Excerpt:
“You’re out!” the umpire shouted.
Rick ran toward the infield, watching Alex as he ran from home plate to the pitcher. Alex lifted Pete off the ground in a bear hug.
They’d done it. They’d really done it. They’d won the game, landing them a spot in the playoffs.
Rick continued to watch his best friend. His excitement was overwhelming. Rick was excited for him too. This was his time to shine. The big leagues were already eyeing him for a spot on their roster. He was about to make the majors. It was everyone’s dream, but Alex wanted it more than anyone he’d ever met.
Alex had something to prove to himself and to his father.
“Hey man, congrats.” Rick extended his hand.
Alex accepted his hand and pulled him into a hug.
“Thanks dude. I can’t believe we did it.”
“Before long we’ll be watching you on television.” As happy as he was for his best friend it saddened him to know that they might not buddy around as much as they used to.
“I hope we see more than that of each other.” Alex slapped Rick on the ass.
Something stirred inside Rick. A feeling of warmth lingered on his ass where Alex’s hand had touched. His cock twitched to life.
What the fuck is happening?
Rick wasn’t gay. Hadn’t had a gay feeling toward his best friend since the day Alex came out of the closet. So why now? Why was his cock springing to life?
Rick rearranged his cup, trying to ease the pain of it biting his cock. He shook his head. This had to be a mistake. Yes, it’d been a few months or more since he had sex. That had to be the explanation for his manhood coming alive.
Either way, that’s what Rick was going with.
Alex jogged ahead. Rick’s gaze planted on his tight ass and his thick legs. He wondered if his thighs were rock hard when he buried himself in someone’s ass.
“Fuck!”
“What’s up, man?” Pete asked.
Rick looked at the pitcher and shook his head. “Nothing,” he muttered. “Nothing at all.”
How would he explain to Pete what was bothering him? Although Alex was out of the closet in most of his life, he wasn’t when it came to baseball. The guys just wouldn’t understand. Not when they walked around naked in the locker room. It never bothered Rick. He continued to walk around in the buff, knowing his best friend was gay. He’d never noticed Alex checking out any of their teammates so he didn’t give it another thought.
“Everyone up for a few beers at The Crossing?” Alex yelled over the noisy group.
Cheers were called out throughout the locker room.
Rick wasn’t sure he wanted to go. He didn’t like the feelings taking over his mind and body. It was probably best he go home and figure it out.
“Hey dude, ready?” Alex asked, coming up behind Rick.

Is it Thursday already?

Life is just hectic. Still planning the two parties. Mom’s is pretty much done. Just have to get a cake. The DH’s not so much. I have so much shopping to do. It’s not easy when he works out of the house three days a week. I think the worst part is not talking about it. We talk about EVERYTHING. I’m wondering how he kept my 40th party a surprise. Especially with my kids. They have BIG mouths. But they all kept it a secret.
So I got an email from one of my publishers. They’re considering a print book for me. I wanted to jump up and down but it’s not definite. They wanted possible title names. Because of length restrictions they have to put a couple of my books together. Fine by me. So this morning I compiled a list of 10 titles and sent them off. I’m not good at thinking up titles on the fly. Normally my titles come to me first and then I write the story. So this was painful to say the least.
I’ll keep you posted if this pans out. It would be nice to be able to hold one of my babies in my hand!
In other news: still didn’t get the newsletter out. I’m gonna do my best to get it out today.
22 days til vacation. Can you tell the day job is stressing me out too!

Can't Seem to Remember

I swear I feel like I’ve got the early onset of Alzheimer’s disease. I can’t remember anything anymore.

My newsletter will be out later today. You can sign up to the left if you aren't a subscriber. ;)

Let’s see what’s going on in Amber’s life. I’m not sure what I’ve blogged about so here goes nothing. If you’ve heard this all before I’m truly sorry.

I’m busy putting the final touches on my cougar story, should have this in my editors hands by Friday.

I received another contract last week or the week before for book 2 in the Freedom Fantasies series – Spend The Night With Me. Book 3 – Play With Me is with my editor.

I have an editor interested in my work. One I’ve never written for. It’s a publishing house I’ve wanted to get my foot in the door though. I sent her a short blurb of the story I’m going to write for her and she seemed genuinely excited. It’s a M/M/F – tentatively titled Stranded. I’m really excited about writing this book and promised it to her by July 1st. Please keep me in your thoughts that I can finish this project and get it in her hands. I set the deadline so I didn’t procrastinate, like I’m very good at doing.

My editor at AMP is interested in reading my romantic comedy. So, I’m working on edits to submit that one to her. Oh and I have a new release coming Friday June 4th. I haven’t received my cover art yet and I’m growing nervous with only two days left. But I know Tuesday will do an awesome job. She always does.

The book Sliding Home is M/M. Here’s a R excerpt.

Blurb:
Alex loves baseball, so when the majors come calling he is thrilled. The only thing that would make his happiness complete is a partner to share it with. Although his best friend, Rick, knows Alex is gay, he doesn't know that Alex has been in love with him for years. And with his departure for the major leagues imminent, he's not sure now is the best time to tell him. But after an evening of celebration turns into a night of pleasure, Alex is confused. Does Rick want a relationship with him? Or, will he walk out of Rick's life forever, wondering what might have been?

Alex's career has hit a home run but his love for Rick is the ultimate victory. If he can figure out a way to slide into home plate, he'll do more than score.

Excerpt:

He thought he’d seen something earlier. A spark in Rick’s gray eyes. He couldn’t have imagined it, could he? Again, when he’d rubbed up against him while they were playing pool, he saw the look.
It was desire.
Then Rick had stormed off to the bar for another drink. Was he afraid of hanging around and letting Alex see his raging hard-on?
Too late.
Alex had noticed it and got hard instantaneously. He was so hard he’d thought about going into the bathroom and rubbing himself until he felt relieved. Somehow, he knew relief wouldn’t come from masturbation so he decided against it.
Besides how would he explain his long absence?
No. Alex had suffered through.
When he asked if he could crash at his friend’s house he’d had an ulterior motive. He wanted to see if things would be different when they were alone. He wanted to know if Rick would mention how his body reacted to Alex’s.
He didn’t. In fact, he’d never mentioned it once. Even when they entered Rick’s apartment, he never said a word. He retrieved the blanket and pillow for him, before heading to his room.
One thing was certain; Rick couldn’t get out of the living room quick enough.
It was like he was afraid of what would happen if he stayed too long. Could he be wrestling with the same feelings Alex was? He wasn’t sure, but he didn’t want to act on it just yet. If his friend did have feelings for him, he wanted to address it before he had to leave.
Knowing Rick was waiting for him would make his transition much easier.
Alex wondered if he should go into Rick’s room and see if he was still awake. If he was, they could talk about what had happened. Worry settled into the pit of his stomach. What if Rick did feel something, but refused to act on it? What if he rejected Alex?
Alex couldn’t handle being rejected by his best friend. He cared for him too much. He didn’t want to ruin the friendship they had by stepping over any lines. No, it was best for him to stay put on the couch. If Rick wanted him, he would have to be the one to make the first move. That way, Alex wouldn’t be treading into uncertain waters.
Disappointed, but satisfied with his decision, Alex closed his eyes and tried to concentrate on anything other than his aching balls.
An hour later he was still struggling with the tightness in his crotch. He thought about relieving himself numerous times but was afraid of Rick walking in on him or worse—overhearing his moans.
Unable to fight the urge, Alex jumped off the couch and headed toward Rick’s bedroom.
“Fuck it.” He had nothing to lose at this point— except his friendship with Rick.

An Interview with Kaye Manro

When Amber asked if I’d like to be a guest on her blog I immediately answered yes! She is one cool lady and it pleases me to be here answering her probing questions. Inside my answers, you’ll find that I talk a bit about my new Sci-Fi Romance release, Forbidden Love from Red Rose Publishing. The questions just seem to lend so well to it! Thanks for having me on your blog today Amber!

Before we get started I'd like to add that I'm thrilled Kaye agreed. I have to say she's a fascinating and talented author. So enjoy the interview! Oh and make sure to read the blurb and excerpt at the bottom. Forbidden Love is a must read!

Amber: Tell us about your favorite character from your books.

Kaye: My favorite character is usually from the book I’m writing at the time. For the moment, my favorite is T’Kon. He is the hero from Forbidden Love. T’Kon is an idealist from an advanced alien culture who knows how to use his attributes well. He has such sexy alpha male qualities. What more could a girl want? At least that’s what my heroine Maya thinks!

Amber: What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Kaye: For me it’s finding the time to write with my busy schedule. I have to be flexible when it comes to creating fiction but also to use self-discipline and make the most of my time.

Amber: What do you think makes a good story?

Kaye: The answer to this question could be an article! But in a nutshell, I’d have to say a good story has believable characters, a well-developed plot, properly places hooks, tight writing, plausible sensual romance, and or course a HEA.

Amber: How do you develop your plots and your characters? Do you use any set formula?

Kaye: I don’t have a set formula really. But I do have a kind of system. First, I come up with a plot idea and research that premise. Then I ask “What if…” and from there it springboards. When developing characters I always analyze them and discover who they are and what motivates them. The better a writer knows the characters in their story the more real the story becomes. When I first started writing Forbidden Love, I saw T’Kon’s planet, Asconage and his cool blood species first. Then I found him, got to know him, and the story began to take on shape and form.

Amber: Where do you research for your books?

Kaye: There is a vast amount of information available on the internet. That’s not to say I don’t use the library and other resources as well.

Amber: What book are you reading now?

Kaye: Currently I’m reading Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair. As a Sci-Fi Romance author, I love reading SFR books and Ms. Sinclair is one of the top writers in this genre.

Amber: Where do you dream of traveling to and why?

Kaye: This may sound a bit strange, but I’d love to travel on a starship exploring the many millions of galaxies out there. Like my heroine Maya from Forbidden Love, if I ever had the chance to do so I may never want to come back home again! For now, my writing will have to satisfy my dreams of space travel.

Amber: What are your favorite TV shows?

Kaye: I’ll bet you can’t guess the answer to this one! Since I am an avid Sci-Fi fan, reader, and author, I love all things Star Trek and Stargate. I also enjoy Eureka, SyFy’s quirky original series. Almost always, watching an episode of any of my favorite shows will spark another story idea for me to write.

Amber: Do you have any suggestions for beginning writers? If so, what are they?

Kaye: Here are a few tips I’ll share that I wish I had known sooner. Study the markets you are interested in pursuing. Research everything relating to your genre and make sure you know your subject well. Write tight and polish your manuscript. Do enlist the help of straightforward, unbiased readers or critique partners. Then submit your work to the right line or publishing house for your story. And be sure you have a marketing plan in place even before you begin to submit your book.

Now I’ll share a bit of my book, Forbidden Love with you.

Forbidden Love Blurb:

Illicit Sultry Passion...While Dr. Maya Belle is researching wildlife habitats in the far desert region of her world, a sudden burst of sand engulfs her. She goes to investigate and cannot believe what stumbles out of a massive dune. She soon finds out she is in the company of a sexy alien from another galaxy…T’Kon from the planet Asconage is on a peaceful survey mission studying a distant world known as Terrain. When his spacecraft malfunctions, he crashes into its desert. A female named Maya gives him aid, and a steamy lust grows between them. A sultry interspecies passion neither can resist. To avoid detection by the warring factions governing her world, he must repair his damaged craft and leave. Can she convince him to take her with him, or will he set forth without her and forsake their Forbidden Love?

Forbidden Love Excerpt:

“So how did you learn to speak our language?” Maya asked, “Not your native tongue I’ll bet.”

He scrutinized her through squinted eyes. A crinkle stretched across her nose where a line of minuscule brown dots scattered down onto each cheek. He had an impulse to stroke the dots, see if he could rub them off. No, he should not touch her again.

“While studying your planet, I picked up words and phrases.”

She leaned across the counter and captured his eyes with hers. “Why are you studying us?”

He did not answer her question. He had told her too much already. The less she knew about him the better. “Take me to my spacecraft,” he said.

She stared at him.

He hissed out more air and then shook his head. “I had not planned contact.”

She scooted around and came to stand close to him. He could tell she wanted to touch him but did not. “Maybe you didn’t plan it but here you are. So why not take advantage of the situation...” her words trailed off and this time she did touch him. She slid her hand over his chest and onto his face.

He caught her fingers in a rough hold. The act caused his talons to unsheathe. “No, I cannot. I will not.” He dropped her hand. A sudden realization—glancing down at his body, he stood naked before her his mating organ erect. “What have you done with my bodily covering?”

“I cut it off,” she answered. “I had to do it so I could examine you to see if you were hurt. Your space suit encased you so tightly, I had no choice.”

He hissed close to her ear. “You tore away my covering, now I shall rid you of yours.” In a display that surprised even him, T’Kon slid a claw around her back hooking her clothing with a talon. In a swift motion, he slashed it from her. The garments landed on the floor in tattered pieces…

Kaye’s Bio

As a romance author, I lean toward the adventuresome in my writing. I love science fiction and all the enticing quantum theories surrounding it. Where characters rush through outer space at Faster than Light speed, or teleport into another time, and even slipstream into an alternate reality. I like creating love scenes too with strong heroes, and captivating heroines. It just seemed natural to combine all these elements together in my stories and write (SFR) Science Fiction Romance.
